The High Druids Blade is the first novel in the Defenders of Shannara trilogy by Terry Brooks. The protagonist of this novel is Paxon Leah, a descendant of the royal line of Leah, but they are now commoners rather than royalty. The story starts with Chrysalin Leah’s abduction by the sorcerer Arcannen. To both Paxon and Arcannen’s shock, the sword that Paxon has turns out to be the real Sword of Leah that the Druid Allanon gifted to his ancestors.

Paxons sword then becomes a focal point for Arcannen, he desires it most fervently. Paxon and Chrysalin are at this point out of reach at Paranor with the Druids so that they may both receive training. Paxon is trained by the best, and returns to the world months later to help apprehend Arcannen.

As one may come to expect (SPOILER) they do not catch him, but they gain some allies and learn many new things about their opponent so that they might continue their quest in the second and third books.
