The Medusa Chronicles

The Medusa Chronicles was written by Stephen Baxter and Alastair Reynolds with the inspiration of A Meeting with Medusa by Arthur C. Clark. This book is very complex with a series of flash backs that span several hundred years. The main character is Commander Howard Falcon. He becomes a cyborg as a result of a serious crash in 2080, because of this experimental surgery that saves his life Falcon goes on to live until well after the year 2850.

Along the way Falcon meets the Springer family, and several subsequent generations. However the family starts back before Falcon was born, in 1967 Springer was in the government that helped deflect the Icarus asteroid from a direct hit with the earth. It also kickstarted the NASA work into space travel, further than the moon.

I was reading this on a train to Kent from London. I remember it really well because I was reading a section about falling through the gasses on Jupiter and listening to Florida Georgia Line. It made me feel things, now when I hear one or two of their songs it makes me think of that moment and this book, even 18months later as I finish this post. That is the legacy of a truly wonderful book! Apologies that this took so long to get to you <3
