If you read my previous review of “The Bourbon Kings” by J. R. Ward you may know that I was not the biggest fan of her new direction. That is, away from the Black Dagger Brotherhood. However Kresley Cole has successfully managed to write a romance novel based in a non-supernatural world and I was rather impressed with it.
Annalia Tristan Llorente lives in a small village in Andorra, this is in the mountains quite a distance from any other towns or cities. Courtland MacCarrick is a mercenary from Scotland who has entered into an agreement with General Reynaldo Pascal to assist him in taking his bride and overthrowing those in power in Spain. There id a disagreement and Court escapes death by throwing himself into the river and over a waterfall. He awakens several days later at Anna’s home where she has looked after him even though the dirty reputation of Scottish men has preceded him.
Pascal wants to marry Anna but Court slowly falls in love with her and vows he will not give her up. Along the way both Anna and Court get hurt, lost, confused but they find their way. Although things do not go to plan a lot of the time they muddle through and get to together with everyone in London safely. Nothing like a good old happy ending.
Loved this one, totally going for the next book!
